Hosted by Edith Bowman and Will Best, from 7.00 PM until midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, there will be ten half hour sets from some of the biggest names in rock and pop. The Isle of Wight Festival would also have taken place this weekend and Sky Arts are providing three evenings of non-stop archive festival action to make up for its absence. From midday until 6.30 PM there’s a range that emanates metal’s jovial sense of community - Doom Yoga, vegan cookery, a tutorial to do your make-up like Kiss, bands’ quarantine diaries, quizzes, cocktail-making, a guitar tutorial from Sepultura, and more – then from 7.30 to 11.30, a solid selection of live footage and interviews, much of it exclusive, featuring Kiss, Iron Maiden, System of a Down, Biffy Clyro, Baby Metal, Lacuna Coil and many more. Britain’s premier metal-fest, Download, which would have taken place this weekend, have risen to the challenge of gathering a wealth of online material for metallers to enjoy this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Not, then, ideal for at-home acoustic shows on basic kit. It’s a cathartic music, best enjoyed in the moshpit, played loud by bands working tight together via stacked amps. What this is, and the fate of the band itself, is revealed in the new ‘Silent Running’ video.Of all music genres, metal has perhaps been worst served by the current crisis. With the band in search of the One Truth to fix the world (and Murdoc out to impress his neighbour), they are barrelling towards a prophesized day of reckoning called The Rupture. Russel is glued to the TV in an effort to salvage some meaning from the static and save humanity, while Noodle is compiling a handbook of wisdom and knowledge. Early reports from the Golden State indicated that The Great Leader AKA Murdoc is not only in love with the lady next door, but has a new scent, bottled as his own Divine Essence. Originally based at Kong Studios in West London, early last year the group of musical misfits relocated to Silver Lake, California where their new mansion home in the hills proved to be the perfect base from which to recruit new members to join ‘The Last Cult’. Produced by Nexus Studios, the live-action and animation-infused video’s sense of scale is conveyed through layers of detail large and small, incorporating minuscule carvings on the cave walls, evaporating cult members and the use of real fire on set. Jamie and Fx set out to create a narrative-led creatively ambitious music video for the band, bringing together prosthetics, pyrotechnics, performance and intricate visual effects.
